The Overloaded Snowbank

Wingflight settled down in the overloaded snowbank. It was very soft and fluffy, like sticky white flakes of powder. Her large foot sank in to the deep snow. The water went up Wingflight's foot, and she winced. It was cold. She wished that she had companions....
I know. Wingflight wrote as best as she could with some berry juice on her talon, "Ice Swords. Find us at the overloaded snowbank to the east of the Dragon Forest." She made a big pile, and went to hang them up.

Ebony had noted the change in temperature many leagues back. She'd traveled northward many times in her life, but never had she seen so much snow, so beautifully white. No camoflage for me here. She thought, laughing at herself.
Wingflight was starting to fly lower in the sky, slowly sinking towards the far-away ground.
They'd barely been travleling for a day now. The sky was slowly yet surely turning from black to deep blue, and the moon had set long ago.

Scythe's eyes drooped as the crew flew onwards. The cool night air would've chilled him to the bone had he not been riding on Ebony's scaly back. Her body heat was more than anough to keep him warm and comfortable, and now, with the sky so dark and the stars shining down on him, he felt drowsy. Shutting his eyes and nestling his head netween his paws, still gripping tightly to the dragon, he murmured, "'Night, Ebony."

Moongazer looked at the snow. "Ew." she thought out loud. She hated cold things. She liked warm, soft things, like the blaze of the sun whenever she was out napping in the heat. She winced with the thought of having to step into the snow; she would prefer flying that to get in that pile of wet, cold thing.

Wingflight looked at Moongazer, who went "ew". Wingflight smiled in her amusement, this dragon obviously disliked snow. "Hopefully you don't mind," she said outloud.

Moongazer hesitated, and then frowned. "Do you actually live in this... this pile of wet and snow?!" She looked around and saw only snow. Snow snow snow snow snow...

"Of course. Where else could we live? Do you see too many trees?" True, there were a few brambles or trees, but mostly the land was snow... "When we get more members, we might build a camp."

"Snow iss vet, ja. But iss beautiful too. Cold no bother me, vith mai thick scales and inner fire." Ebony said. She looked back at Scythe just in time to see him fall asleep. "Silly volf."

The sound of bickering dragons made Scythe's ears twitch. He slowly blinked open his eyes, only to see stable forms about him. We aren't moving anymore... He unhooked his claws from Ebony's armor and tried to stand up. He lost his footing, however, both from weariness and the slippery sclaes of the dragon, and rolled off her bacl and fell into a puddle of wet snow.

Scythe bared his teeth and shook off the dampness, trying to ignore the hot feeling creeping up his pelt. What a way to make an entrance...

"I'll help you, wolf, if you want."

Scythe narrowed his eyes and curled his lip. "I'm fine, thanks," he barked, shaking out his pelt. Spray from the snow flew in all directions.

Wingflight avoided the spray and landed on the snow. It felt nice and cold on her toes. the way I like it,

Moongazer slowly set her foot down into the snow...It was cold and now her feet were wet. She sighed and sat in the snow, shivering.

"If you're uncomfrable, go in the three trees, where the snow stops. That's the only place we have sun."

Ebony settled into the snow, enjoying how quickly it melted away from her hot body. If they were seriously going to build a dragon camp here, they really needed either very cold and tough ice or a rocky cliff.

Wingflight looked around and she saw a small cliff. It was made of tough stone. She descended into the cliff. In the canyons, no snow was there. It was an oven. It's either too hot or too cold. Wingflight said, "This would make a good camp if we could melt some snow in here to cool it down."

"Aren't you guys supposed the breathe fire or something?" Scythe growled, flicking his ear.

Wingflight breathed hot white flames, scorching Scythe's ear. "Sorry," she said hastily, blowing the last of her flames out.

Moongazer blinked gratefully at Wingflight. "Thanks!" she called, and quickly hopped on over to the trees, looking up. And then she looked at Scythe. "I don't breathe fire. That's not my special talent or whatever you want to call it." She sat down near the tree, wondering what was in it.

Wingflight nodded. "You're welcome. Fire isn't my special talent either, though I can do it."

Scythe was able to move away from the flames, and only a tiny bit of his fur got singed. He glared and Wingflight and said,"It's fine." To Moongazer, he asked, "So what do you do?"

Ebony rejoined their group just then. She'd stayed outside to take a good look at the landscape, which was apparently her new home.
She stepped under the shadow of the cliffs, her eye tracing over its stone, calculating its toughness.
Then she joined the group and lay down on the now-warm stone and listened to them bicker. She'd done enough talking for one day.

Wingflight looked at Ebony. "Could you help drag some snow in this place to cool it down a little place?"

Moongazer looked at Scythe plainly. "This," lifted her head and blew out of her mouth. Water slowly sprayed out and neatly dropped to the ground in a puddle. "And it can be hot OR cold!" She blew more water and steam started to fill the air. She put her paw in the hot water and sighed happily.

"I also can do one more thing." Wingflight looked at the snow, her eyes bored into it. At once, the snow cracked and melted into a small stream of water, flowing through the canyon. "Gyah..." Wingflight focused more, and the water refroze itself again into hard ice.
